Human Behavior.

It's like scratching away at a wall in my brain.
Letting some light through while blocking out other areas.
Feeding and starving the piece at the same time and then accentuating the growth or decay.
Start in one room, then move to another and see if the magic follows.
Always keeping in mind that some people lose the magic forever,
So don't take it for granted.

Pulled Back In.

It'd be easy to walk away if it wasn't always so awesome.
Not everyone gets to tap into the inter dimensional soup.
Maybe, though, not everyone tries.

Trying is key.
Listening is key.
Trusting is key.

What a fun thing it is to be alive.

Will Work For Stars.

I think it is entirely reasonable to expect
to be able to do one push-up for each year I've been alive.
This seems like a workable goal.
I also think that it is entirely reasonable to add a few extras
for good luck and longevity.
This is called superstition, but my pecs ain't complaining!
They actually are though
on account of all the push-ups I've been using them for.
But it's almost bikini season according to the magazines, and I need to be prepared.

What do you work for?
What are the things?
Stars? Money? Time?
For me it's a little bit of all of the above.
For me it's for other people.
But that's not entirely true,  just sometimes it feels like that.
But then, not right now, right?
With a cold beer and a hot bath
and a storm rolling past
kicking up wind outside.
This is for me.
And for you.

We are all for each other and let's leave it at that.

Maybe you're lucky like me, and you get to spend some quality time in your brain for a few hours ...every other Saturday.
Maybe that's all it takes sometimes because you appreciate the luck you have.
The luck of the ability to tap into and explore a creative vein running through the universe.
The luck of beautiful children to raise and teach and wrestle and love.
The luck of an understanding partner that stands with you to appreciate the new day.
The luck of a supportive network of family and friends that give you goals to aim for
and keep you grounded and focused.

There is a lot in this world, and we get a tiniest fraction of it if we are lucky in our lives.

Roll To The Rescue

The weather is changing so quickly.
Again, it all has a sense of doom.
Unless you are ready.

Follow the lines, chart the progress, make your map and keep it safe.

We're going to need our wits about us.

If you want to go look at this painting, you can. It is
hanging up at Louis B. James Gallery

A Painting is a Painting.

I like to paint on paper.
So sue me.

This does not make it a drawing.
You are probably saying "Obviously, A-DOI!!"
But in certain circles anything on paper is
a drawing.

Not in my circles.

... My circles that I painted on paper.

It's just a frustrating thing to deal with.
But I know you probably got your own problems.
And maybe your own frustrations.

So, nevermind.

Lift With Your Heart.

Today was one of those days, like the old days where you just can't seem to tackle the mountain of work in front of you and you spend a lot of time looking around at the grandeur of the space in which you are currently packing it's contents for transport to some different place that is probably more grand than the current occupancy in which you are spending precious moments that you will never get back no matter how hard you wish and no matter how hard you work because just looking around you know that these people made different life choices earlier on in their lives that resulted in a whole shit load of responsibility you never wanted and are thankful you don't have because really this is just one big carrot leading to nowhere special and besides, the only people that have this many art books are the people that can't make art for themselves... And this is what you talk about as you drive over the bridge, back to your tiny apartment where everything makes sense to you and you feel like you can actually
breathe.

Finally.

The New Project

So this is the idea.
This is a different approach.
If you've been a fan of the blog, please help spread the word.
And I thank you in advance.

Sit Down, Stay.

Hey my Bros, what is up with you guys?
Me? Me, I'm chilling.
Like an ice cold glass of coffee sweating on the beach.

We had people over this last weekend past and that is why I been too busy to talk. I was a cooking machine! Like those kind in Japan. I made all kinds of food. Food like whoah!
It really brought back fond memories of a simpler time, a simpler summer when all I had to do was chop vegetables and roll burritos, along with mopping and taking out the trash, those were my main responsibles of life. Everything else was just sun and fun in the tent my dude.

Not that this summer is shaping up to be anything less than awesome, but it's just different.
And you know, it is nothing I would change really. My main goal in life is to just let things be, and then be around them.
Like for example I know some people that are always stressed out about how things is. The stuff they have to do on a day to day basis gets them down and they just get so mad about it. If they would just accept that it WAS in the first place, they'd be able to accomplish so much more with their time instead of pining for something that isn't and can't even be on account of their already spending valuable units wishing for something different.

I'm not saying I don't get bogged down with worry and anxieties and I am also not saying that the day to day grind almost beat me into submission. Sometimes it's a minute to minute basis I have to fight off the urge to stick my head in the sand, Ostrich Style! But I read an article one time about Steven Colbert and it really changed my life.
(there was also an article about Ernest Hemmingway that particularly ruled, but that's a different story)
Yeah, Steven was asked about how come he seemed to have no fear of consequences for his outlandish behavior and He talked about how when he was little his Father and Brother were in some kind of accident and were killed. After this trauma he said that it was sort of hard to return to school and act like any of it mattered. He was little, and again I may be getting parts of this story wrong, but the lesson I learned from him was that you can either be as awesome as you can possibly be all the time, or you can fall in line and keep your head down and never even try to be awesome.
Bad things happen all the time, to everyone, and life is no guarantee that you are going to succeed or retire or find love and happiness. Life is just life. It is like he saw this bad thing happen, and he knew it could have been him in that accident just as easily as it was his Brother or Dad. As sad as it is/was, he used it to propel him into the world with vigor and it's like he never looked back. He is a true champion of life, if only for the the fact that he lives it.

So I have to go pedal over and get the Burger. We got a date with some water balloons in the park.

Beyond Infinity.

So this is a slideshow of work that I am submitting for a grant review.
I got nominated for a grant is what I am trying to tell you, and it is a big deal for me.
I won't know until September, but in the mean time I am trying to spread the word around.

I got both my ears to the ground.
I got my fingers on the pulse.
I am trying to find the pulse!!!

Dear Gob someone direct me to the pulse!!

I am taking it one day at a time, and this weekend I took photos of all the work.
I actually have photographed these same pieces probably 5 or 6 different times, and each time there was some new obstacle I was not accounting for that would send me into a tailspin of worry and head slapping.
I used the word idiot many times.

It was too light, it was too cold, we painted the back wall and the new photos didn't match the old photos, upstairs and downstairs... everywheres.

But then it all came together beautifully yesterday morning and I have my lovely family to thank for leaving me alone to curse and sweat my way through this mess.

And now it is done.
I will be sure to share the link when the submissions go live on the website.
I feel like this is all pretty strong, cohesive and beautiful, but that's just me.
So wish me luck.

Before My Eyes.

This coming weekend, the weekend of june 4-6, I will be having an art show at my house that is a stop on the Bushwick Open Studio Tour. I will be showing work by my friends RJ Supa and Jeff Graham as well as some new work of my own.
Tis exciting!
The above photo is RJ's, I have no photos of Jeff's work yet but when I do I will let you see it.
I don't know that there are many readers in the area, but if there are, please do come out, there are at least one million different stops on the tour and it is pretty fun.
There will be a beer waiting for you.

There's A Ball In My Shoe.

This painting was recently destroyed by rain.
I sent it to California and now it will never come back.
ON account of the rain, like I said.
It makes me sad not only because it is awesome, but because I made this while Mama T was cooking the Burger.
And I don't know, it just meant a lot to me.
And now it is gone.

Turn, turn.
Nothing to be done about it now huh?
Accidents happen ad so on, right?

Just some paint and chalk and wood.

That is the thing about art in general.
It is all just materials and ideas when you break it all down.
You need to break it all down.

Or the rain will do it for you.

Execution of an Idea.

So I use this program on my "iPhone" called Sketchbook.
It is what is says it is, a sketchbook but in full color and I can use it on the spot for ideas that I have.
So this is the sketch, and then a photo of the end product.
I should take a better photo.
But you get the gist.

I like to make these wooden pieces.
I have been referring to them as constructed paintings.
I have a small collection going.
Do you?
You should.
